ITV and Channel 5

ITV

ITV is the largest commercial channel in the UK. annually ITV invests around £1billion in its broadcast channels and website (itv.com). Different Commissioning areas; Comedy Entertainment, Factual, Daytime, Drama, Sport, Current Affairs, Digital Channels and online.
This enables me to be relatively free and open to what type of audio-visual text I can produce as ITV broadcasts a very wide variety of different genres/shows/categories.
Due to ITV's wide variety of programmes, it seems to be more suitable to the target audience of millennials as there is more choice for the target audience to choose from. It also opens up the options for what audio-visual I would produce as ITV broadcasts a more diverse range of programmes.

This shows that ITV wants to remain a modern and therefore appealing to a younger (millennial) audience. They want to also partner this target audience with an understanding on protecting the planet and promoting sustainability. They also understand that their partnerships (how they are also funded) are also very significant as they want to ensure that they represent different groups/communities of people.
Channel 5

'I can tell you now that we DON’T want programmes that are tricksy or derivative – or that are over formatted. And we are not crazy about ‘experts’ – I think there are probably enough out there for now. 'Specialist Factual, Documentaries and Factual Entertainment'
(Ben Frow, Director of Programming)

A crime drama would not fit this channel as it favours more straight/simple types of programmes. However, a factual documentary would be favoured on this channel. This may be difficult to create due to not

being able access the topic I choose and make it non-fiction.

Third Blog for Media NEA action plan

Action Plan Research: Research that I have already began collecting includes looking at the TV Times in magazines and looking at the TV Guide for what programmes are on each of the broadcasters; itv and Channel 5. I found that some programmes were on at the same time every weekday on the ITV channel such as 'The Chase,' this suggests that there is a mid-evening demand for game shows. I didn't get onto researching the Channel 5 TV Guide so that will be my next step. Another issue that I encountered when initially doing this research was that I was unsure what ITV channel I was supposed to be creating a audio-visual for. What I did to try and create a resolution was to just look at the ITV TV Guide to start with. Week One: during this week I will continue on from my initial lesson/introduction to the Media NEA and will continue writing my blog and creating an action plan for the following weeks. I will also spend time completing the TV listing notes and writing up at lea...

Aims and Intentions

- H ow and why will you use media language in your media production? -How and why will you construct representations of individuals, groups, and issues/events? -How will you target your intended audience/users? -How will your production conform to its industry context? In this audio-visual, media language will be used to make it distinct to the genre it is conveying. Hand-held camera shots will be used to create a sense of realism, panning shots will be used to display the setting/surroundings, close ups will be used to direct audiences’ attention to certain aspects of the narrative. The mise-en-scene will increase the authenticity of the genre, by using natural lighting, modern clothing and props to create a sense of tension and realism. Re-occurring props will also be used to carry the narrative. Sound effects will be natural and will mimic the real life noises that would be heard, however tense music will be used. Representations will be constructed to fit the conventions ...
